Frequently Asked Questions:
What software features are included with OPTI-GUARD™?
OPTI-GUARD™ ships with IMS™ (Infrastructure Monitoring Software), which includes:
- DVR-style event playback
Custom alert thresholds
SOP integration for field response teams
Built-in case management and reporting tools
What is FLEX-PORT™ technology?
FLEX-PORT™ allows customers to utilize either Multi-Mode or Single-Mode fiber with EACH port on the OPTI-GUARD™. This allows much greater flexibility and allows your hardware to accommodate any future infrastructure changes. Additionally, this allows every port to be configured for either ISP or OSP applications.
Can OPTI-GUARD™ work with other systems?
Yes, OPTI-GUARD™ supports legacy alarm systems like alarm panels, video surveillance, or autodialers via SPDT Dry Contact relays provided on the back of each unit.
What Rack Units are available with OPTI-GUARD™?
OPTI-GUARD™ M4 units are 1RU. M8 and M16 are both 2RU. Mounting hardware is included with all models.
What makes OPTI-GUARD™ different from other intrusion detection systems?
Legacy systems often trigger alarms for entire cable sections, leading to frequent false alerts. OPTI-GUARD™ uses intelligent monitoring with forensic analysis, threshold-based alerts, and case management via our IMS™ software — helping you locate and respond to incidents with more precision and fewer nuisance alarms.
What is included in the support and warranty package?
Customers with a Gold Support License receive 24/7 technical assistance and priority hardware replacement along with a 5-year hardware warranty.
What type of sensors does OPTI-GUARD™ support?
OPTI-GUARD™ supports passive sensors for interior monitoring (such as cabinets and lockboxes) and for exterior protection (such as NEMA enclosures and maintenance holes). It also supports our Cyber Sensor Array™ — a single-mode fiber with embedded sensors to detect movement and vibration along walls and floors.
What OPTI-GUARD™ versions are available?
Opti-Guard is available in 4-port (M4), 8-port (M8), and 16-port (M16) configurations, allowing scalability while reducing your overall hardware and IP footprint.
Questions You Should be Asking:
How many strands of fiber does the OPTI-GUARD™ require in order to protect?
CyberSecure IPS designed and developed the OPTI-GUARD™ with this in mind. Our solution only requires ONE single strand of fiber to monitor and manage each pathway/zone. The end result is customers (in some cases) actually can repurpose existing fiber optic cabling strands and repurpose them for other uses.
Our organization doesn't have the knowledge around intrusion detection. Can you provide guidance to better understand your solution?
Absolutely! We have Registered Communication Distribution Designers (RCDD) that can set up a call to go over the CyberSecure IPS product. Our team will custom design a solution based on your unique needs and environment. After a call, an itemized quote can be provided for Market Research.
What are the signs that my current fiber intrusion detection is insufficient?
Most legacy systems can’t pinpoint exact intrusion points — they trigger alarms for entire cable runs and require frequent manual inspections. OPTI-GUARD™ gives you visibility at the sensor level and automates incident detection and logging. If you want to spend less time dealing with nuisance alarms, more control over sensitivity thresholds and gain more visibility over your fiber network then it's time for a tech refresh!
How does your current system handle false alarms?
Nuisance alerts can not only desensitize your response team, but they also waste valuable time. OPTI-GUARD™ uses adjustable sensitivity thresholds to reduce false alarms and only alert you when it matters.
Can your team respond to alerts efficiently and with proper documentation?
When an event does occur, OPTI-GUARD™ helps your team respond faster — and document their response with clarity. Security personnel will receive instructions on location, what to inspect and SOPs for logging and closing the incident.
